I am a reformed sun worshipper. Years of baby oil and bikini days behind me, I now opt for the shade or a lot of SPF. I’ve mentioned my annual skin checks resulting in questionable mole removals. But every pale chick wants a little color from time to time… so off I headed pre-Vegas to a local cosmetology school for an airbrush tan. I’ve never used a tanning bed but have tried bronzing lotion. Orange hands and streaks resulted so I opted for a spray tan. Airbrush is the way to go, if you don’t mind the person with the applicator seeing you half-naked. The other plus is you can avoid getting your face sprayed-my facial skin is too sensitive for the solution. So there I stood, half-naked with a shower cap on my head, getting exfoliated. Unfortunately, a combination of the skin stimulation with my hands over my head and the rising room temperature led me to almost PASS OUT. No kidding! I have fainted before at the doctor’s office so when I felt it coming I had to sit down and request some water. The student and her instructor were great about it. A fan was turned on and I was fine. I later laughed thinking about what would have happened if the barely dressed news lady collapsed during her spray tan. Would have made for some good gossip around the salon. I was happy with the outcome: enough color to wear my swimsuit without blinding people but still subtle enough not to look too fake. Next up, the Saint Tropez bronzing treatment! I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Aubrey is a doll, look at her eyes!!
I’ve always wanted to try the airbrush tans, but was afraid of looking orange. My family and I are heading to Florida the first week in May. I don’t do tanning beds anymore,(even though I love how relaxing they are), because of all the skin cancer risks, so I recently bought some VERY pricey tanning cream(almost $40 for a small bottle!). It works well and looks natural, but I’m not a fan of the scents of tanning creams. Do the airbrushed tans have a scent, and how long do they last?
Spray or airbrush tans are the way to go. I have been wondering if someone in the area offered the airbrush tan. A sincere “thank you” for promoting skin cancer awareness, Tara!
