An Ode to Bald Men

When I met Dave in 1998, he had hair… a lot of it.  Actually he pretty much had a mullet after years of being married to someone who did not want him to grow it out.  I liked the look, even with his hair thinning on top.  Then the balding pattern moved to front and center and Dave’s sister pointed out that the hairless path was starting to form a racing stripe on his forehead.  Having heard so many people say if you shave your head it won’t grow back, I was reluctant for him to break out the razor.  How wrong I was.  When I eventually moved to Iowa and he came to visit, we decided he should go for it.  My first thought was to visit a black-owned barber shop.  I grew up with so many African-Americans in Peoria I knew a black barber would have the experience with a razor Dave would need to avoid cuts, bumps and other skin irritation.  Let me tell you when the barber carefully took off every last hair on his head, Dave looked incredible.  I thought he was hot before, but with the shaved head I was even happier about marrying him. :)   Now I don’t have to watch his hairline change as he ages.  He just shaves it all off every day and goes with it.  Of course two things are in his favor, he has a nice-shaped head for being bald and he usually has some sort of tan.  That helps.  On a regular basis I see guys who are in the mode Dave was in for quite some time.  They are holding on to the side hair or patchy stuff on the back and they can’t/won’t/are afraid to let it go.  I am telling you, ladies with men in their lives doing this or guys who know who you are, SHAVE the hair off.  All of it.  You will not regret it.  Yes it may actually be more work to keep your scalp “clean” but, believe me, you will shave years off your life when you do.

A shaved head is like a mustache or beard. It works for some and not for others. Just like us girls with a new hair style or color. It can be WOW or YUCK. Try it, you might or might not like it!!!!

Yes, Dave has a nice shaped head for being bald. My husband on the other hand, not so much! I’ve only seen a picture of him with a shaved head and that was enough! I’m guessing he won’t be doing that again…ever!

Can we see a before picture of Dave??

Dave you are hot. I can say this because I am a Granny and say what I think…
If you were my son-in-law I would say it to your face. You and Tara make a great looking pair.
I’m talking like shes not in the room reading this off her computer….. Hi Tara ;)

I think balding men who try to hide the fact are showing their insecurity. A man who takes the initiative to just buzz or shave it off shows how confident he is in himself. I do think also though that some face shapes aren’t condusive to a fully shaved head and maybe buzzing it is better. I know many young people in sports especially who shave their heads but they are so pale and many times have dark circles that they resemble someone who is seriously ill.

My hubby has a great head of hair – the salt n pepper look is really hot but I also think bald men are pretty sexy!! :)

I just had to chime in on this one. I’ve had receding hair for a good 10 years and this past May, I decided to get rid of the thinnest part. I currently have a bald spot from my forehead going back a ways leaving a ring. I was not wanting to do it, but I was tired of the “combover.” I did this while my wife was at work and when she came home, she was shocked, but loved it. I shave it everyday to keep it looking nice. Now, I’m about due for another cut and this time, I think all of it is going to go because of what it left up there is starting to look like Bozo the clown. Bye bye hair at age 38!! By the way – to Dee: I never thought of myself as confident before and was ashamed of my balding. I’m not now. Thanks for the uplift!

I to think Dave is a very fine looking man!!! My husband decided to shave his head and I was afraid it would look terrible because he has kind of a flat head in the back but to my surprise it has grown on me and I like it. I have always thought my husband was hot with or without hair but he never had to do a comb over thank god!! lol My brother was balding at 22 so he decided to start shaving his so has had a bald head since he was 22!!!
