Weekend Pass

Three days and nights without Charlotte & Thomas were granted to us courtesy of my parents, otherwise known as Nana/Papa.  Friday morning we made the switch at the West Branch McDonald’s–then we were off to do what married couples do when they get a break from their kids:  talk about them & attempt to catch up on lost sleep!  Saturday night included a benefit at The Isle for Coach Willie Gadson, the Waterloo East High School wrestling coach who’s battling Stage 4 lung cancer.  It was a Who’s Who of Iowa wrestling for sure.  Another highlight of the night would have to be our “people watching” at the casino floor lounge.  An older couple, I’m guessing in their 70s, were cutting a rug to a live band decked out in cruise ship attire–pun intended.  Picture the guy in carpenter jeans, white tennis shoes and a crisp white shirt tucked in with a fake lei around his neck.  The wife in a seafoam green top, matching capris and hearing aids.  Let me tell you she had no trouble hearing her man call her to the dance floor.  They broke into the Electric Slide, perfectly in sync, that I guarantee could have gone viral on You Tube had I taken Dave’s advice and recorded then posted it.  He was even doing sunbursts with his hands in a subdued version of a high school glee club.  I didn’t want to embarrass them but in hindsight could have landed them on Dancing with the Stars, well maybe America’s Got Talent.

I love watching the “older” generation dance. I’ve seen couples, one might require a walker, dance so beautifully just from the support of each other. This was all learned at a time when there wasn’t anything else to do on a Friday or Saturday night. Wish I could dance like that. :(
