Thankfully in this age of DIY channels and entire websites designed to showcase crafty moms worldwide, there is hope for the anti-Marthas like me when it comes to convenience. Another genius invention: pre-fab gingerbread houses. Lord knows I would not be decorating the little holiday gems at my house if not for pre-baked and pre-cut kits with candy, icing & fondant packs included! For ten bucks you can bring it all home and, with little time and mess, let your kiddos have at it. Of course I joined them in licking the frosting off our fingers and popping some of the candies in my mouth instead of on the icing trim.
The cool thing, this kit had a house AND a train so Charlotte handled the house while Thomas tackled the train. Daddy helped hold some of the pieces in place as I plastered them together with the icing. Then he started to sweat and get frustrated because he was applying too much pressure and the train car was collapsing. But we got ‘er done. I feel like this is similar to a blog post I wrote same time last year. Because 365 days later I have not changed. Maybe next year I could at least bake the little gingerbread man to stick by the house. We’ll see!

You are making precious memories! Looks like a lot of fun, well done!
They are beautiful …..;)
Making a gingerbread house is also a tradition in our family. Our houses look similiar to yours but ours always seems to collapse a day or two later.
It doesn’t matter though because we always have fun doing it!
A new tradition we are starting, cinnamon baking ornaments. You mix applesauce and cinnamon and roll out and cut with christmas cookie cutters. Make a small hole on the top with a straw, bake in the oven and attach a ribbon and hang from the tree! I remember doing these as a kid. So much fun!!! Just don’t eat them
