There is a certain freedom you experience being around first graders. Each week volunteering in Charlotte’s class and eating in the lunch room with them, I try to soak up their optimism. Clueless about adult concerns, these kids are still young enough to really embrace the simple things–like a morning snack or chance to put on their snow pants for recess. I envy their unbridled curiosity. I admire their open-minded approach. They seem fine sitting by anyone and everyone in their classroom to break bread. And they talk and laugh comfortably with children of different races and faiths. No one has been overloaded with information to make them think too hard about who they should hang out with or why someone’s not suitably dressed. I love that they get to show up every day and just be themselves. No pretension. No expectations to look a certain way. Just be kids.

WoW Tara! In just a few sentences you took me back to my childhood & how little girl’s cares were back then. I honestly think, if I can remember correctly, my biggest care was hoping that while we were in school, the wind didnt rearrange my sister & my leaf house in the front yard. I can’t thank you enough for taking me back to when life was….actually carefree. I REALLY needed this today. Thank you my friend!
AMEN !!! Your writing skills are extraordinary as well as your verbal communication. I’m praying only good things for you and your family.
Unfortunately you will discover that this carefree lifestyle does not last too much after first grade! I hate to burst your bubble but it seems like kids don’t get to be kids as long as years ago. So glad you got to experience it!
It’s so easy being a kid…
