Life as a small town news anchor is never boring–viewers assure this. Here is the latest message I received via Facebook:
You really shouldn’t let your roots get as outgrown as they are!! Plus you need a cut and style on your hair! You are a very beautiful woman! But your hair lately looks like white trash!
The female viewer sent this at 6:15pm on January 1. I have yet to reply but have come up with a few things I’d like to email back, though I won’t:
Thanks for the feedback. My goal is to get a reality show like Honey Boo Boo.
Appreciate your thoughts. Can’t get highlights every week as my hair would fall out.
If you have time to email me on New Year’s Day, maybe you could come down and style my hair for me.

Oh my, the perils of being a public figure. I guess you have to take the bad with the good.
Some people never give up. I know that you have broad shoulders & can blow these kinda nutz off. Tara, this SO reminds me of when my husband & I were at a nice restaurant here in waterloo & we were meeting his sister & they were quite busy but not loud at all & in she walks & as she was walking to the table she said ” OH…YOU HIGHLIGHTED YOUR HAIR” ( shes SO loud anyways ) …ugh! EVERYONE looked at me & I was so embarrassed! I always have tried to please everyone all my life & just the past couple a yrs learned to have confidence & please myself. Some busybodies just need to criticize…they remind me of clouds. When clouds go away it’s always a better day
I think someone has to much time on there hands.
They need to get a life.
And take a good look in the mirror
and take the meds.
OMG, what is going on with people? Jealousy?
Thanks for all you do for us viewers! Your hair is fine, for goodness sakes!
Ignore the ignorant!!!! Keep smiling pretty woman!!!!!
And here I thought your hair looked so pretty and was wishing I could do that to my hair. Sigh….
I noticed last night you had your hair alittle different – looked great! I hope you can let those negative comments slide off your shoulder. You look great and do a great job with the news – keep up the great work!
Oh the rudeness….A bazillion years ago someone told me that I was a very pretty lady but it was too bad that my ankles were so large. (Like I didn’t already know this?) I politely plastered a smile on my face and said, “Really? I never knew this. But these large ankles probably keep me from falling over when people tell me how large my ankles are.” Then I walked away.
White trash? Isn’t that a little harsh? And very far from the truth!
I just hope this gals new years resolution wasn’t to be a nicer or better person cause she just blew it!
Keep your spirit up Tara, I think you look great!
Does anyone else at KWWL get negative remarks sent to them?
Love it Jen!
Ahhh. white trash generally is termed for people who live in trailer parks, have yucky appearance. I don’t think this person checked what it refers too before using the term and if so, the note was sent to the wrong person
These comments like this would eat me alive… but keep your chin up! Actually, the other day I wanted to email about that stunning silver top piece (guessing it was a blazer, but could have been a shirt) – it was so pretty on you… and highlighted you beautifully without taking away from your face! People really need to think what it’s like to spend a day in the shoes of someone they are about to criticize… I’ve tried doing that this past year, and not only am I more gentle to others, I’m happier myself! <3 you Tara -keep being you!
Perhaps she’s wishing she had your hair but doesn’t want to admit it and be nice about it.
Usually the person whom says something negative is showing their true personality.
