This rotator cuff surgery has been tough on Dave. He is used to being on the go at work, running around with the kids and doing stuff around the house. But as those of you who’ve gone through procedures with longer healing know, it takes time. Already he has been trying to wean himself off the pain killers, something the physical therapist told him today is not necessary since it hasn’t been a week since his overnight stay in the hospital. She also discovered doctor’s orders include no strengthening exercises involving his repaired shoulder for 12 weeks, adding most patients only have to wait 6-8. That confirmed what I thought based on his uncomfortability level–that it was a bad tear. Plus he had a bone spur that had to be removed. Thankfully his range of motion is good and he is making progress. I suck at being a nurse. Have I mentioned that? I forgot to help him with his seatbelt a couple times, so he just didn’t wear one. Not good. And I am going too fast when assisting on the arm exercises we’re supposed to do 3 times a day. Poor guy!

Sometimes it’s hard to be the Good Nurse because we seem to take so much for granted, like the above you mentioned.
It’s pretty much a two way street of anxiety, determination, and frustration.
Everyone hang in there. My hubby had the same surgery and his Dr. told him it was one of the worst tears he had ever repaired. It just takes time. Be patient. My hubby is fine now. He fell on the ice when he tore his. Be thankful that we have doctors who are good at this kind of surgery. It will all turn out ok! One more memory for the books.
My hubby had this done many years ago, be thankful that doctors are able to fix these types of injuries. A little therapy and a lot of patience and all will be better soon.

Hang’in, Dave….I’m sure it’s difficult to deal with the pain you are experiencing plus your inability to be ACTIVE which is the lifestyle you are accustomed to.
Nurse Tara, and her assistants, Charlotte & Thomas will give you TLC to make your recovery a bit easier!
Again, trying to send this after several attempts.
Sorry you have so many comments from me, but I kept being told the catch a was incorrect, my comment wore then disappear…………?????
