Heading in the wrong direction

I was never into teen idol worship.  You know, like buy Tiger Beat magazines and tape fold-out posters of Kirk Cameron on my walls.  I have been to two New Kids on the Block concerts, though.  But far from one of their groupies I went to college with who had pictures on their tour bus with a very skinny and then unknown Mark Walhberg!  But Charlotte, at 6, is showing signs she may be one of those girls who screams outside autograph signings.  Please, no.  Not only did she select Justin Bieber valentines (with temporary JB with hearts tattoos!) for her class… she picked out pajamas with the popular boy band One Direction on the front during the weekend.  Help!  We listen to NO mainstream radio.  But we watch Disney channels.  And I don’t have to tell you how Hannah Montana turned out.

A very impressional age. I watch the age gap on what our girls watch.Meaning these entertainers are in some cases 2 and 3 times their age. The entertainment world is way beyond what perhaps we want our grade school children watching. Some of the material on the disney channel and other entertainment does not meet up with children ages 6-12 and their understanding. We all have our convictions, this is just one of mine. Enjoy the holiday tomorrow!

Well said Kris. My children are grown but I see a lot of things these days that make me very sad for the school age children of this country. From the way they dress to the movies and TV shows they watch, also many parents don’t discipline their children and buy them everything they want, spend tons of money on birthday parties, children aren’t able go for a ride in the car unless they have a TV screen entertaining them.

Sometimes I wonder when children attend school? I was shopping today and there are children running around the mall with their parents or grandparents. I understand some may be home schooled, but I think children should learn that going to school is their job and something that you go to everyday there is class, unless you are sick. Good school habits make for good worth ethics.

    Sorry, work ethics!

Diane, I agree with you 100% and my kids are grown too. I see parents picking their children up from school and hanging on cell phones. The kids can’t even tell their parents about their day at school. (Of course, we must not forget that there are some very fine parents out there too.)

    Tara,
As a mother of 4 young children, I know how hard it is to raise children allowing them to be individuals and make good choices, yet trying to gently guide them away from they things of this world that are not the healthiest choice for their little minds! Just today my 8 year old wanted to watch a movie on the Disney channel that was rated G, but and at first glance looked to be based off of a church choir. I am so glad I stuck around to watch for a bit, instead to running off to do laundry…SOSOSO inappropriate for his tender, and oh so impressionable mind! It does seem like it is a constant uphill battle to protect our kids from the junk that can sneak in and seem so harmless to begin with, but really set them up for future struggles! It often seems like no one else notices, or cares. It can leave you feeling a little overwhelmed and lonely. As a parent just trying to build, and encourage a strong foundation for these precious little children that God has entrusted me to raise, Thank you for your post.
