Baby Daddy Drama

Pretty much daily, my husband faces adversity at work.  By work, I mean at the high school where Dave teaches AND in our home where he parents.  He’s like a single dad most weekdays.  Mommy’s with Charlotte and Thomas in the morning.  Daddy gets the afternoon and evening shifts until I come home for a couple hours before the 10pm news.  I read somewhere the time of day he’s alone with our two is called The Witching Hour.  You know, when your cherubic children take off their angel wings and stomp on them.  Take what happened to him last night.  At some point, a diaper was tossed in our open washing machine.  It’s a top-load only Charlotte could reach, other than us.  And we don’t remember doing it, so she must be behind it.  The plus, it didn’t contain more than pee.  The negative, in his rush to complete household chores while simultaneously entertaining a 1 and 3-year-old, Daddy ran the load of clothes with said diaper.  The call to me at work explaining this was not a happy one.  I think he said something about it being the worst thing he’s ever seen and the clothes being ruined.  Sadly, his favorite jeans were involved.  I knew exactly what he was talking about when he described the sticky pieces of diaper all over the washer contents.  Remember when your child peed out of his diaper and you didn’t change him right away?  Well, at least I do.  Now imagine that slimy, decomposed diaper dotting your bra and nylons.  Yes, mine were in there.  Dave suspects it will take 5 more wash cycles to actually clean the load.  As we were having this conversation, he discovered some 10 acorns in Charlotte’s jeans pocket.  A souvenir from the playground bound to wind up in Daddy’s boxer-briefs.  Okay, that sounds bad.

yes we have done that!!! The wet diaper was in a blanket by mistake. You don’t always shake out a blanket when washing!!!
Our diaper did not make as big of a mess as yours. Very funny when reading your story!!

You are so right about the Witching Hour! Late afternoons and evenings can be so hard. My kids are usually at their best in the morning.

Oh, no! A Snugli! I have to tell you its great to see someone else babywearing, but throw the Snugli away! They are so bad for the babies leg development, and they are bad on your back. They also can only face forward, which if your little one gets overstimulated, they can’t turn into you and snuggle for comfort. I personally love my Mei Tai and wrap.

I can safely say I’ve never done that but then I used “real” diapers with my first child. I assume it’s worse than a box of tissues in the washer? Just one question….bras, jeans and nylons(really?) in the same load?

How funny! This made me chuckle. Who has not washed a kleenex in their pants pockets, much less to read a load done with an entire diaper!! Ahhhhh, the joys of having children - -

I agree with Dee……..that’s quite a laundry assortment.

My son once threw a full wet diaper over the 2nd story railing and it exploded everywhere! That is a horrible mess to clean up. Poor Dave!

Had to laugh at the diaper story. I was sick w/ the flu several years ago and had a little one in diapers. I did not change him the entire day. Oh my!! Just wasn’t thinking straight I guess. Anyways, when I removed the soaking wet diaper there was a “tapioca” like substance all over the babys bottom. That is what happens to a completely soaked diaper. Rinsed him off to be good as new again. Thankfully it was only a pee diaper not the poo. That is the only thing that made me feel a little bit better. Oh, and the kids getting all crazy this week….. I blame the full moon. Gets my kids everytime:-)

Hilarious Tara! At least to me, probably not to you and Dave at the time. :) I question the laundry assortment too though. I am famous for washing white socks with colored items but bra, jeans, and nylons together….really? If it works, I’ll try it too I’m sure. LOL
