I was surprisingly awakened by a rooster this morning. Wait… no… it was actually Cubbie “pretending” to be a rooster!
Cubs and I are sleeping. I’m dreaming a wild dream about running to get Cubbie to save him from a bomb explosion (I have no idea where these dreams come from) when I suddenly hear a “rooster.”
I’m still sleepy, and my first reaction is to put a pillow over my ears. I slowly open one eye and then the other. I see Cubbie sitting up, head and ears completely back and his mouth in the air howling. Sometimes Cubbie wakes me up by barking. This was not barking. It was howling, seriously like a rooster, in a high pitched noise I rarely hear him make.
I try to shhh him and tell him to be quiet. It works for about two seconds. In the two seconds of quiet I hear another dog outside making noise. I have to assume Cubbie is talking to him. Cubbie goes right back to howling. I sit up, and try to get Cubbie to me quiet again.
I usually want Cubbie to be quiet for the benefit of other people, but this morning it was all about me. I was so tired, and he was really, really, really loud!
Finally, Cubbie put his head down and collasped onto me. I began to pet him, and of course, he fell right back asleep.
It never fails. The mornings I can sleep in even a little bit, it never works out.
