Christmas Gifts Destroyed

It’s no secret Cubbie loves to rip stuff up. I’m so grateful it’s just his own toys! (I wouldn’t think it’s so funny if he tried to rip up my shoes)!

He got a stuffed and squeaky frog from my little brother and his girlfriend for Christmas. It only took him a few minutes to start pulling the stuffing out. By day two, all the stuffing and the squeaker were out.

When we got back to our house, he apparently didn’t want to wait long enough for me to unzip his new doggy pillow. Cubbie proceeded to tear open the plastic bag on his own.

And we’re not done yet.

This is what I found in the hallway after talking to my mom on the phone. It used to be a tennis ball. It was also a toy he got for Christmas with his new doggy pillow.

Merry Christmas!

Cubbie wishes everyone a very happy and safe Christmas.

Here he is with our tree this year. (Yes, I love purple so I have a purple tree).

Hoping for a “Miracle” at the Dubuque Regional Humane Society

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is both home to and hoping for a Miracle.

The humane society received a three-legged Pomeranian pup, which they named Miracle. Dubuque Regional Humane Society (DRHS) president and CEO Jane McCall said the veterinarian told them the dog was born with only three legs.

Regarding the hoped-for miracle, the DRHS is still $700,000 shy of its capital campaign goal for the end of this year. It has already raised $2.1 million.

McCall said the DRHS is looking to purchase larger facilities to support the growing number of animals it’s taking in.

“Much like this little puppy,” she said, cradling little Miracle, “our capital campaign is limping along, and so we’re hoping for a Christmas miracle, too.”

She said the current DRHS facilities were built in 1992 for a maximum of 3,600 animals per year. Currently, McCall said, the humane society is taking in 5,000 animals, annually.

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is accepting donations online, via mail and in person.

That’s a Wrap

I finished the last of my Christmas shopping this week on my day’s off. First comes the buying, then comes the wrapping.

Apparently Cubbie was just so exhausted after watching me wrap presents!

And this is my favorite. It’s as if he’s saying, “Hey! I’m trying to sleep here. No pictures.”

Christmas Presents for Pets

A Pet Finder survey found 63% of dog owners and 58% of cat owners give their pets presents at Christmas.

I’m one of those dog owners. And my parents aren’t technically Cubbie’s owners, but they get him a present every Christmas as well. (Usually he finds it under their tree, but this year Mom hid it behind other gifts). He usually gets some treats and new chew toys.

In addition to Christmas presents, Cubbie also has his own stocking at my house. Our Christmas tree also features several dog-themed ornaments. (What can I say? I love my dog).

For me, Cubbie is part of the family so of course he gets Christmas presents with the rest of us. Does he know it’s Christmas? No. But when we’re all opening presents is he excited to rip off some wrapping paper, too? Oh yes.

Cubbie was at my parent’s house during the weekend, and when I went to pick him up he came running from around the corner. Mom said he was spending lots of time in the room with the Christmas tree and presents. (Probably sniffing around for his). While I was there he tried tearing into one of the sacks of presents! Just because he’s a dog, doesn’t mean he should be left out of the holiday fun.
