Dog Hug

This photo was sent to me by a KWWL viewer.

It really does look like she’s giving him a hug!

The “big brother” is a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, 9 years old, whose name is Crockett

The “little sister” is a Havanese, 7 months old, whose name is Boji  (as in Okoboji).

Waiting to Clean the Plate

Cubbie knows he won’t get any food off my plate, but I do let him lick the plates when I’m done.

He was on the verge of falling asleep while waiting for me to finish eating. I didn’t think I ate that slowly!

Hungry Cubbie

Friday morning I noticed Cubbie’s food was almost gone. I didn’t think we’d have quite enough to get through the weekend, so I wrote myself a note to call the vet’s office for more food.

I couldn’t get away from work before the end of the day, so I asked the vet’s office to set the bag of food outside the door for me.

I got there around 6:30, so it was dark outside. I simply picked up the bag of food, put it in the car and headed home.

I used up the rest of Cubbie’s old food Friday night and Saturday morning. Saturday evening, I grabbed the new bag of food out of my vehicle and cut it open to give Cubs his supper.

I noticed the food looked smaller than usual, and I thought to myself this is odd. Cubbie was ready to tear into the bag, but I looked at the front and didn’t see a dog on the bag. I saw a cat! Then I felt bad because I’d opened the bag without even looking at it! I completely understand how the vet’s office could get the bags confused. Besides the picture of the cat, the bags are identical.

So I put the bag of food back in my car to take back on Monday. The dilemma, it was Saturday night and Cubbie was out of food.

I ran to the store quick and got him a couple cans of wet dog food just to get him through until Monday morning.

You might be wondering why I didn’t just go buy regular dog food at the store. Well, Cubbie is on a prescription dog food diet because of his pancreatitis issues, so it’s only available through the vet’s office.

So Monday morning I went back to the vet’s office and got Cubbie DOG food instead of cat food. He’s good to go.

Big Bark… For a Scaredy Cat

This bark_worse_than_bite was sent to me by a viewer. Basically, a dog is barking and barking at a cat. Then the cat turns the table and you see just how brave (or not so brave) the dog really is.

I was sitting at my kitchen table when I watched this video for the first time. Cubbie was on the couch sleeping, but by the end, he literally came running over to me.

I don’t think he knew what the noise was or where it was coming from, but he knew it wasn’t good!

Cedar Valley Humane Society to Offer Microchip Clinic

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (February 15, 2012) – The Cedar Valley Humane Society will hold a microchip clinic on Saturday, February 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at PetCo, 1450 Twixt Town Road in Marion. The cost is $35, which includes microchip insertion and registration. No appointment is necessary.

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice, and it’s implanted between a pet’s shoulder blades. The procedure is relatively painless, similar to receiving a shot, and it takes only seconds to complete. If a pet is lost, it can be scanned at any animal shelter or veterinary clinic. Information stored in the microchip will link the pet to the owner through a national database.

The nonprofit organization receives no federal or state funding, nor is it associated with any national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA. It relies solely on service fees and donations from the local community to enable it to offer vital services such as animal rescue and critical care for homeless, abandoned, abused, sick, and neglected animals.

The Cedar Valley Humane Society is located at 7411 Mount Vernon Road SE in Cedar Rapids.
