Inner Voice

I had a wonderful weekend with my family in the Twin Cities and now I am back in Cedar Falls ready to start another week. The best part of this weekend was NO FIGHTING! Usually we at least have a tiff here and there with the family but this time everything was perfect and I laughed so hard my belly ached. Saturday night we grilled up burgers and my mom made her famous corn on the cob with special “chaat masala” seasoning on top! Delicious!

Time always goes so fast when I am home. It is nice though to come back early on Sunday and get a few hours for myself before the week starts. While driving home I had a lot of time to think and boy did I. I turned off the music and went into my head space for awhile and just let the thoughts flow as they may. How often do we even do this? Life gets so busy that I never have time to really think about stuff. I suppose that is what meditating is for. A time to let your thoughts flow to the surface and see what is really important. I remember when I was in Eugene and I would fly back to the Twin Cities to see the folks and while I was on the plane, I would finally have a real chance to think. It sounds silly but the thoughts that would come as I was finally forced to have some free time were amazing and clarifying. I have made a vow to have more of this time to just let my thoughts come to me and listen to that inner voice that often speaks to us but we are so busy that we hardly have time to listen.

The first thought that came to me was that I really need to consider going back to school. I have wanted to get my MBA for awhile now and it seems something always gets in the way. I want to continue to work in television and at KWWL for a long time but I think having another degree is something that can only help me in everything I do. I have no idea where to even start or how I will ever juggle full time work and school but if you have a dream you can achieve it one way or another. I hope to call admissions at UNI this week.

The second thing I want to do is start doing some freelance photography. I have always had a love for photographs and an eye for design. I take pictures more than anyone I know and I love experimenting with lighting and shadows. I want to buy myself a nice camera and train myself to use it. I think I can start by taking pictures for free to build a portfolio and then start doing some serious photography. I have a ton of ideas for things that are different from what most photographers do. I just need to find a place to start and then go for it. I need to start my research right away. I am so excited !!!!

It never hurts to have another degree in the back waiting.
Your young and talented so stretch out those wings as far as you can and fly with all you can!
Education can never be taken away from a person.
