Eating independence

Since Drake turned one, he’s made so many big transitions with food.  Of course, this is the age you can finally quit buying $22 canisters of formula every week as you switch to good old whole milk, and he started being able to eat all “real” big people food.  It was such a freeing feeling in a way when this all first happened to be able to put him in his high chair, put some food on the tray and let him pick it up and eat away so I could do some dishes, fold laundry, and at meal times have him saddle up to the table with us.  Now our little guy’s taking a new stride toward eating independence.  He started staring at Floyd and I eating with our utensils a couple weeks ago.  So I just decided what the heck–give the kid one of his baby utensils.  So I gave him a mini-fork and he went to work!  It was a little challenging for him at first as he tried to figure out how to poke food and get it to stay on there before putting it in his mouth, but he had it down pat in no time!  Now, depending on what we’re eating, he will often “request” a fork or spoon.  It’s so gosh darn cute to watch him!  And it’s just one more step in this whole growing up thing. ;)

Watch out for the applesauce! I remember our son needing a bath after “weaving” applesauce throughout his hair when I turned my back!
Oh, those were the days…….he’s now fully grown!
