Imagine dozens of people working hard every day to earn something they cannot spend. Something that’s always at risk and never taken for granted. We’re talking about trust — an asset that’s at the core of what we do at KWWL News.
Eastern Iowans from Waterloo, Dubuque, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and the smaller communities across the region trust KWWL and KWWL.com to deliver important news, weather and sports fairly, accurately and quickly. We take that responsibility very seriously. That’s why we’re launching this blog. We’re devoting this space to exploring and exposing our editorial process. We believe transparency adds value to the journalism we publish online and broadcast on the air.
During the coming days and months, several members of the KWWL news team will write about some of the more difficult decisions we make on a daily basis. We’ll take on issues raised by our customers — people like you who invest their time reading, watching and listening to KWWL. And we’ll invite your feedback. We have no doubt you’ll let us know when we do something you like or something you hate. Our hope is that you’ll come to this space to share your thoughts about KWWL and KWWL.com, and to get an inside look at our people and our process.

I’m curious as to why KWWL did not have coverage on the first Waterloo Mayorial Debate held last evening for the League of Women Voters which was open to the public.
The Courier had their article in this mornings paper already and KWWL has not given much coverage on this race.
This is an important one due to the fact that many citizens are disgusted with the way the money is being spent by our city officials. This should be a top priority with KWWL since it concerns their city, their citizens and their city gov’t.
Thank you
Thanks for your question, Suzanne. It’s a good one. We agree that local politics - including this race - are important. As always, daily coverage decisions are based on relative newsworthiness and available resources. We didn’t get to that debate but we will be covering the contest as we get closer to election day.
One factor worth considering — unlike our local newspaper, our signal reaches viewers in nearly two dozen counties. Yes, our studio is located in Waterloo, but we’re also commmitted to covering the biggest races in Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and points in between. It’s a big job and it’s always a balancing act.
As for election night, we’re going to be reporting results from more than 200 local races on television and on KWWL.com. We hope you’ll tune in to watch your vote count.
