Veterans Memorial Plaza dedication

Today is a day we honor and remember all veterans and what a better way to do that then to dedicate the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Chaplain Schmitt Island. I have so much more to talk about but I am on my way to Postville for another story. For not I will post pictures of today’s event. All of these were shot from my phone. BUT I have more on my camera.

Here the various guards were standing at attention, waiting for the dedication.

The US and POW flag raised for the crowd.

A large crowd, hundreds, on hand to hear the Hempstead band play, as well as several people speak and sing in honor of the new memorial.

All the veteran war flags raised on site.

That’s all for now…more to come. And to all the veterans out there today…THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

Dubuque Art Center joins the blogosphere

Today I discovered a new blog worth looking at if you life in Dubuque.  The Dubuque Art Center has apparently been blogging for quite sometime.  But I discovered it today and have already learned a lot about the center.

They started blogging a while back when they wanted to show off their new facility and some of the products in their store.  BUT now they are blogging about events going on and posting pictures of activities and progress of art.

I encourage you to check it out: http://dbqartcenter.blogspot.com/

I was particularly interested in the latest blog entry about the creative aging program.

Anyway, check it out for yourself.

Halloween costumes revealed…

Okay so I have to admit, I’ve never gotten into Halloween much.  Every since I was too old to go trick or treating…it lost its appeal.  This year however, changed that.
Friday we had a work costume contest.  I dressed up as a sports package.  In the news business when we put together a story with interviews, my voice and video over my voice we call it a package.  So I dressed up in sports apparel covered a box in sports page newspaper and called myself a sports package:

Then during my 5 and 6 pm liveshot I borrowed a costume from a friend.  I dressed up as a pumpkin.

And then Saturday I debuted my custom I’ve been talking about all week…

Wilma and Fred Flintstone made their debut with several other creative costumes at my friend Kori Newby’s (the photographer at the TH) apartment.

I apologize if you are under impressed! haha I did kind of build this up a lot last week.  BUt I was excited because it was the first time I actually thought about a costume and spent some time getting it ready.  :-)

Also Jamie Grey got creative:

She went as Flo from the Progressive commercial.  You know you see the resemblance. haha.

Oh and there was a Billy Mays, a Zorro, Lucy (from I Love Lucy), and greek gods.

Anyway, it was a good Halloween.  I’d love to see pictures of how creative you got.  E-mail them to me and I’ll post them on my blog.  ;-)

Hope you had a good weekend.
