: Five tornadoes touched down in western Iowa with three of these moving through Council Bluffs injuring 88 people, damaging more than a thousand homes, and blowing a 40 car freight train off the tracks.

1936: The hottest month on record in Iowa continued as Des Moines tied its warmest day ever with an average temperature of 95 F. It was also the 13th of a record 15 consecutive days on which the temperature rose into the triple digits at Des Moines with a high of 108 F. Other high temperatures reported around the state included 110 F at Atlantic and Oskaloosa, 113 F at Keokuk and Washington, 114 F at Corning and Fairfield, and 115 F at Keosauqua.
