The greatest crop destruction occurred in a swath up to 4 miles wide and 40 miles long extending from the northwest corner of Delaware County southeastward. Hail stones piled up to 6 inches deep on the ground in some locations.

This Day in National/World Weather History …

Crops were mowed to the ground and roofs were blown off buildings along its path, 150 miles long and 30 miles wide, from near Abilene to southeast of Pittsburg.
