September 2

From NWS
2000
: Very hot late summer weather gripped most of Iowa during the first few days of September. The temperature at Glenwood reached 104 F on the 2nd making it the highest temperature recorded in Iowa in September since 1976. Along with several other readings of 100-101 F across southern Iowa on the 1st-3rd, this event marked the first triple digit temperatures in Iowa in September since 1984.

1942: Thunderstorms produced heavy rain over portions of southern and eastern Iowa. At Maquoketa 3.85 inches of rain fell in only an hour and a half during the afternoon and it was estimated that 3 inches of that total fell within just half an hour. The very heavy rainfall washed out sidewalks and roadways and flooded basements and homes across the city, producing many thousands of dollars worth of damage.
