A cold front is forecast to cross the state tomorrow with a few showers. Here is the forecast position of the front at 1pm tomorrow.
The best chance of rain will be between 10 am and 3 PM. Keep in mind this time frame includes all of eastern Iowa. The rain will start and end at the early part of that range in our western counties. The rain amounts are forecast to be light (see map below…Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening).
An area of low pressure across the Midwest will strengthen and produce some windy conditions. It will also pull some colder air southward. Thursday will be the coldest day of the next seven days. Highs will be in the upper 40s and low 50s. Thursday will also be cloudy with a few showers possible. The freezing level is pretty low so any stronger showers might produce some small hail. The wind will also be an issue. The wind across eastern Iowa will be from the west at 15-25 mph and gusty. The stronger wind will be to our west. The map below shows the area, shaded in blue and tan, which will have the strongest wind with the low at 1 pm Thursday.
A few showers may linger into Friday morning. The clouds will slowly clear during the afternoon. The wind will remain gusty from the northwest. Temperatures will remain chilly as well.
The weekend is looking a bit warmer with highs in the 60s and a light windy. Also expect more sunshine.
A cold front is forecast to push the state Monday with a chance of showers and behind it, on Tuesday the high temperatures will drop back into the 50s.
