It has been so nice outside today. Temperatures at 3 pm range from 73 to 79. Keep in mind the normal high this time of year is in the upper 60s. Big changes are right around the corner.
A cold front will push through eastern Iowa Thursday morning. Behind the front the wind will switch around to the west and be gusty throughout the day. High temperatures will reach the upper 50s and low 60s in the morning but after the front pushes through the temperatures will fall into the mid-upper 50s for the afternoon. Here is the position of the front at 1 pm Thursday.

The NAM model shows simulated radar at 1 pm (see map below) with a few showers across eastern Iowa. The best time to see any showers would fall between 10 am and 3 pm.
If you do see rain the amounts are forecast to be light…roughly around 0.10”. The map below is the rain forecast from Wednesday evening to Thursday evening.

High pressure will keep us dry for the weekend but it will also keep it cool. The coldest day will be Saturday with highs near 50 degrees. The morning lows Saturday and Sunday morning will be in the upper 20s and low 30s. Sunday morning I expect more locations to be in the 20s than the 30s.
Highs warm back to the 60s Monday and Tuesday but that is when another cold front is forecast to track through the state. There is not a lot of moisture for the front to work with but there is still a chance of light showers with the front on Tuesday. Here is the forecast position of the front Tuesday morning.

The 8-14 day outlook (Oct 11-17) from the Climate Prediction Center has us with below normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.
