1939: One of the hottest years on record in Iowa continued into the fall with many locations in southern and southeastern Iowa climbing into the 90s on October 7th. Numerous stations reached record levels for so late in the season and Des Moines established a daily record that still stands today with a high of 91 F. Other reported high temperatures included 92 F at Burlington, Creston, and Lamoni, 93 F at Bloomfield, Oskaloosa, and Washington, 94 F at Keokuk and Sigourney, and 95 F at Indianola, Keosauqua, and Ottumwa.

7 October 1844 → A major hurricane swept over Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas. 158 vessels were wrecked and 2546 houses were destroyed along the Cuban coast. 7 October 2007 → A record temperature of 87F during the Chicago Marathon led officials to cancel the race to protect the participants. There was still one fatality.
