1977: Moderate snowfall on December 8-9 was followed by strong winds that brought bitterly cold temperatures and blizzard conditions across about the eastern two thirds of Iowa through the 10th. Reported snowfall totals on the 8th-9th ranged up to 6.0 inches at Allison, Manchester, and Vinton, 7.0 inches at Dubuque and Oelwein, and 8.0 inches at Guttenberg. As the snow ended temperatures fell below zero and winds gusted to as high as 50 mph producing dangerous wind chills as low as -70 F. The winds also broke power lines and blew snow into drifts as deep as 10 feet, closing roads and stranding motorists across the region.

1970: A winter storm produced heavy snow across northern Iowa on December 10-11 with reported amounts including 10.2 inches at Sheldon, 10.5 inches at Emmetsburg, 11.0 inches at Clarion and Northwood, 12.0 inches at Osage, 13.5 inches at Cresco, and 15.0 inches at Mason City.

10 December 1995 → Intense lake effect snow squalls buried Buffalo, NY under 37.9 inches in 24 hours. Watertown, NY recorded 39 inches in just 12 hours and had 4 inches of snow an hour each hour for 6 consecutive hours. 10 December 2002 → An inch of snow fell on Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii.
