1982: Strong winds spread across Iowa as an intense low pressure system moved nearby with wind speeds of 60 to 80 mph reported. A police officer was injured in Cedar Rapids when part of a skywalk roof blew off, a Cessna plane was flipped onto its back at the Des Moines airport, two light aircraft were blown around at the Fort Dodge airport, and a semi truck was flipped over near Des Moines. Damage to trees, roofs, siding, road signs and traffic signals was widespread.
