The big Christmas 2009 snowstorm is finally leaving Iowa behind. By far, the heaviest snowfall was over the Western part of the state. Farther East, rain and ice prevailed early in the storm…and it wasn’t until later when the storm was weakening that the precipitation finally turned over to snow. Hence, much less snow over the Eastern counties.
