Our part of the planet is slowly tilting back toward the Sun. The Sun appears to be lowest in the sky at the time of the Winter Solstice (around December 20-21). I was unable to capture a sunrise photo right on the day of the Solstice (too cloudy!) but managed to get one on December 19th. I took another photo (from the same location with the same camera and tripod) on Februay 7th. Note the difference in the Sun’s position along the horizon…

Click here to see the St. Patrick’s kids saying hello
A big “Thank you” to the fine folks at St. Pat’s school in Cedar Falls. I got to visit with the students there this week, and I was glad I did. The students had been learning about the weather for quite some time, and they had some very good questions for me.Posted under Uncategorized

Click here to see the Hoover kids saying hello!
I got to visit with the students at Hoover elementary in Dubuque on Wednesday, February 1. We talked about how the sun and Earth work together to make the seasons change. We looked at pictures of storms and clouds. The students were good listeners and they asked some very good questions. I enjoyed my day at Hoover. The students even painted the school windows for me!Posted under Uncategorized
