In his famous song about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Gordon Lightfoot sang about “The Witch of November”. This month is notorious for big, deep cyclones with extremely low pressure and extremely strong wind. The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is just one example…another is the infamous “Armistice Day Blizzard” of 1940. The medium-range computer models are suggesting a very strong storm developing over the Great Lakes by Tuesday, November 19. There are some differences between the models (no big surprise!) but both the ECM and the GFS models show lots of cold weather and lots of wind in Iowa and the entire Midwest. Could it be the Witch of November?
