I’m not on the couch

So I put on some old spandex running pants this morning…and thankfully, they finally fit.  Things are wider…lumpier…the seams may be pulling more than they should… but by God, the pants are on my body once again!

Every day, I grab the stroller and the baby and I go for a run…ok light jog…ok maybe it’s sometimes more of a power walk but whatever.  And yes, at times I look like a turtle stuck in peanut butter. But again…whatever 😉

Normally I have my headphones on and depending on mood, I listen to anything from Tupac to Frank Sinatra but today, the baby wanted to talk about birds.  She’s obsessed with birds.  So as she is screaming, cooing and pointing at every bird she sees…I am chugging along trying to talk to her without losing my breath.

Then I heard it.  Someone in a car that was driving by me shouted out the window.  I won’t go into what was said…just know that it wasn’t nice. Not at all.  If my mother was with me, she would say something like, “he needs his mouth washed out with soap.”  I honestly rolled my eyes at the car (the journalist in me noted the make, model and year of the car).  I secretly wished I could throw up a middle digit…or maybe throw my water bottle at his car…but I behaved myself.

It’s no secret: I am not the poster child for Nike Fitness at the moment.  I gained a lot of weight during my last pregnancy because I chose nachos over exercising and eating well.  I chose naps over exercising.  I chose MORE nachos over exercising and eating well.  Ahh nachos…

Look it doesn’t matter if you are a size 2…a size 12…a size 20.  If you are out on a walk…if you are riding a bike…if you are jogging…if you are at a Zumba class…if you are playing Pickle Ball…if you are taking Roc Fit…THEN YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING.  Don’t let anyone bring you down.  Get up every morning and remind yourself why you started in the first place.

I am well aware that there are parts of me that are wider and jiggle a little more these days…trust me, I can feel it all when I run.  My son also touches my stomach on a regular basis and asks, “is there another baby in there??” (sigh) But if it makes someone feel better by yelling out of a car window…pointing out all of my imperfections…then YOU ARE WELCOME.  I am happy I could help. (Yes…that was dripping with sarcasm).

But guess what? I’m not on the couch.

So if you see people out on a walk…at the gym…on a nature trail and their size, shape or stature doesn’t meet your expectations…perhaps you should just be quiet.  Because they are out DOING SOMETHING.

And if you are one of the people out on a walk…at the gym…on a nature trail…YOU ROCK!

You’re not on the couch. You’re doing something for your health.  You can do it.  We can do it.

Let those haters be your motivators 😉
