Youth Garden Update 8-19-13

The Vinton Youth Garden is doing well this year.  We have around 14 kids this year (although not all of them show up at once) and we have almost as many adult volunteers!  It is fantastic!

 

The kids have been busy.  Here is what they’ve been doing….

They planted beans…

I didn’t remember to get over to the tomatoes, melons and pumpkins, but the gourds are looking good…

I can’t wait to see what the flowers look like!

The surprise lilies are growing well, too.  I don’t know who planted them, but the ones on the east are dying out, the ones in the middle are just past peak and there are some on the west are in full bloom…

The kids are not enjoying the heat and humidity, but the plants seem to be enjoying it.  Hopefully we can get the kids to do some weeding before they harvest some of the produce next week.
