Storms this Evening….Cooler and Less Humid

Tonight: Chance of showers/storms before midnight followed by a partly cloudy sky. Low: 63-66. Wind: NW 5-15 mph.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of a couple of showers in the PM. High: 77-80. Wind: N 10-15 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Low: 56-60. Wind: NE 5-10 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny. High: upper 70s.

Thursday: Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers/storms in the evening. High: low 80s.

Friday: Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers/storms. High: low 80s.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. High: near 80.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. High: near 80.

Monday: Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers/storms. High: low 80s.   

A cold front is pushing through Iowa this afternoon and triggering showers/storms ahead of it. Here is what it looked like earlier this afternoon as the first storm developed.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for parts of eastern Iowa until 10 pm. The main threat from these storms will be large hail and damaging wind. Locally heavy rain is possible as well.

The front will be through eastern Iowa by midnight tonight. Any showers/storms will occur before midnight. The sky will clear after midnight with cooler and less humid conditions moving south. Tuesday will be much more comfortable with the lower humidity and cooler temperatures. The morning will be sunny with a few clouds developing in the afternoon. There is a slight chance of an isolated shower or two in the afternoon. Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon will be mostly clear.

A cold front is forecast to track south across Iowa Friday. There is a slight chance of a shower/storm Thursday evening and Thursday night. The best chance of showers/storms will be Friday. Here is the forecast position of the cold front Friday morning.

High pressure is forecast to provide a pleasant weekend to the area with sunshine, comfortable temperatures and low humidity. Monday will be the next chance of showers/storms as a warm front approaches from the west.
