Weather Extra Bar

It was a warm day with high temperatures getting close to and reaching 70 degrees. Here is the last time we hit 70 degrees or warmer:

Waterloo: Oct 11 (77 deg)
Dubuque: Oct 11 (74 deg)
Cedar Rapids: Oct 11 (76 deg)
Iowa City: Oct 11 (77 deg)

Tonight…A cold front will be approaching late tonight with a stray shower possible otherwise partly cloudy overnight and mild.

We get another chance to see the International Space Station (ISS) this evening at 9:16 PM for 4 minutes it will travel from NW to NE.

Thursday/Thursday Night…A stray shower or two is still possible in the morning as the front crosses the area. The clouds will clear late in the morning into the early afternoon. The wind will be breezy, but lighter than Wednesday.

Apr 9 Rain Thu AM

Friday…A couple of light showers are possible during the day with mild temperatures.

Saturday-Monday…Low pressure is forecast to bring a chance of showers/storms to the area Saturday and Saturday night with high temperatures approaching 70 degrees ahead of the low. The low tracks east of Iowa Sunday with cooler conditions and scattered rain showers. The gusty NW wind will make it feel cooler. The rain showers will continue Sunday night into early Monday morning. Colder air late Sunday night/early Monday morning could be cold enough for the rain to get mixed with light snow at times. At this point I don’t see any accumulations possible. Monday will be the coolest day of the next 7 with highs in the mid 40s.

Rain amounts with this system could add up to 2” across the state.

Apr 9 Rain Through Weekend

This would be beneficial rains since most of the state is in some sort of drought, except northeast Iowa. The Drought Monitor will be updated Thursday morning. The rain will also help the counties currently under a burn ban.

Apr 9 Burn Ban

Tuesday/Wednesday…Dry conditions as temperatures slowly start to warm up.
