Summer Heat This Weekend

It feels like we ended May and went straight into mid-July. Highs Friday reached the low to mid-80s across eastern Iowa. Today, with plenty of sunshine and southwesterly winds, temperatures will be similar. Except…highs today will be a couple of degrees warmer. By this afternoon, most (if not all) of eastern Iowa should reach the mid to upper 80s – an isolated 90° high is possible Saturday afternoon. Increased humidity today will make it feel a few degrees warmer. A few scattered showers and storms are possible this afternoon and into the evening. Even with the higher humidity, the severe weather risk is on the low end for this afternoon. Strong winds and hail are possible if any storms strengthen.

Showers and storms track out overnight. Lows: 62-67. It will be another mild and humid night across the area. A cold front is crossing the upper Midwest this weekend and clears the area Sunday late morning/afternoon. Highs tomorrow will be a couple degrees cooler but the real “cool down” comes on Monday with highs “only” in the low 80s.

Most of this week stays quiet, with the exception of a shower or two on Thursday with another passing cold front. Highs all week stay near or above average with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies through next weekend.
