Saturday Weather Photos

Countless viewers had their cameras ready and snapped photos of weather wide variety of weather we had across eastern Iowa Saturday.

The day started off with rain and a few thunderstorms.  Behind the shield of rain, a “wake low” formed, which produced 50 to 80+ mph winds, in the wake of the rain.  Hampton, Iowa had an 87 mph wind gust.  The gusty wind did cause some tree damage in Aplington and Parkersburg.

Another round of rain and storms moved through portions of northern Iowa late in the afternoon and early evening.  Many viewers caught rainbows shortly after the rain and storms.

The line of storms went on to produce some picturesque scenes of shelf clouds rolling in.  This is a sign of gusty winds out ahead of the line of storms.  Some of the low-hanging clouds you see are harmless, known as “scud.”
